The Cities to Visit

Whilst the coastal areas of Spain have given away to leisure, including water sports and Golf one has only to travel a short distance to find real spain.

Only 40 minutes drive from the Villa do you find the historic city of Murcia, the principal city for the region. Murcia was founded in the 9th century on the Segura river. Today it is a beautiful and interesting city that has made few concessions to tourists.

20 minutes from the Villa you will find the delightful town of Orihuela - remember to stop and park, you will not find the sights from the car. Orihuela has genuine historic interest and has few tourists, remember your phrase book. The town boasts an 12th century cathedral which started as a simple church offering many different styles from Romanesque to Catalan Gothic and Baroque.

The principal town of the Alicant region, Alicante is well worth a visit, by day for shopping and by night for restaurants and interesting night life.

Alicante also has a fascinating history ranging from the first Greek settlement, followed by the Romans, Moors and is now the second largest city in Valencia, and the capital of the fourth wealthiest province in Spain.

The Countryside

However, if it is quiet tranquil walks you have many options. Most towns have excellent 'promanades' where the Spanish participate in their national pastime of strolling, particularly in the early evening. In the area around the villa you have the national park and further afield (40 minutes) you have the rocky peaks and pine forests of the Sierra Espuna.

Entertainment and Parks

The area of Alicante offers you a wide range of activities ranging from watersports at La Manga club (30 minutes) through to water parks (2 in Torrevieja- 10 minutes) and all the activites in Benidorm including Europes largest theme park Terra Mitica, the massive Aqualandia water park and the Dolphin park of Mundomar.
